Sciatica is a medical term meaning an irritation or injury to the sciatic nerve.  The Sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body.  It originates in the lower back and the lower part of the tailbone, from here it travels down each leg ending at our toes.  We can help sciatica as chiropractors because most sciatic pain originates in our spines.  Most commonly a bone moves out of position which causes it to slide into the nerve, that causes the nerve to become pinched which leads to pain in the back or leg(s).  

Other causes of sciatica or "sciatic nerve pain" are herniated or bulging discs, stenosis of the spine, and even a muscle spasm of the piriformis muscle.
